Florence M. Carlson, 101, Duluth, formerly of Barnum, entered eternal rest on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 at St. Ann's Residence in Duluth. She was born on July 8, 1905 in Carlton to Frank and Margaret (Yeager) Duesler. Florence attended Barnum school and later Duluth Normal School where she received her teaching certificate and began teaching in one room school houses at Blackhoof and Beehive Schools. On Feb. 11, 1926, Florence married William Carlson in Barnum. The family traveled and lived wherever Bill's work took them but always returned to the Barnum area. Florence was the last charter member of Elim Lutheran Church where she was very active and involved in playing the organ, choir, and Sunday School Superintendent. After raising her family, Florence returned to UMD and received her BA Degree at the age of 60. She taught third and fourth grades at Central School and later Barnum School until her retirement. During her retirement years, she loved her lake home and was busy and active in the community. At the age of 94, Florence gave up driving her car and moved to St. Ann's Residence in Duluth. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; twin sons, Frank and John; a brother, Carl Duesler; two sisters, Ethel Duesler and Mabel Duesler; and a step brother, Robert Duesler. Florence will be lovingly remembered by her four daughters, Lois Dusek of Hermantown, Eleanor (Allen) Dicke of Anaheim, Calif., Catherine (Lester) Hendrickson of Sturgeon Lake, and Doris Schienbein of Barnum; two sons, Clarence (Mary Ann) Carlson of Bismarck, N.D., and Allen Carlson of Chicago; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. VISITATION:2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continue from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 in Elim Lutheran Church, Blackhoof Twp. Burial will be at Elim Lutheran Cemetery, Blackhoof Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated to two of Florence's favorite charities which are World Hunger and the Scholarship Fund at Elim Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
