Dana Jean (Longshore) Bowman, 90, died January 24, 2012 in Winston-Salem, NC. Affectionately known as Mama Jean, she was married for more than 50 years to the late W. L. (Bill) Bowman, who served as pastor of Southern Baptist churches across Texas during his long career. In addition to her role as a preacher's wife, Jean was an elementary school teacher until her retirement.
The last decade of her life, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Indiana and North Carolina. She loved children and is survived by six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Vick Channel, Wilkesboro, NC; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Joan Bowman, Dallas; daughter-in-law Sharon Bowman Sprague, Farmers Branch; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Anita Longshore, Mesquite; sister Wanda Osburn, Arlington; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Monroe and Jessydean Tabb, McCaulley, TX; brother-in-law Bill Jones, Hamlin, TX; granddaughters Carissa Channel Moening, Union, KY, Melissa Bowman Ross, Richardson, Allison Bowman Morrow, Dallas, and grandsons Eric Channel, Brookville, OH, Matthew Sprague, Farmers Branch, and Andrew Sprague, Dallas.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Bill Bowman; son Eric Bowman; brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Elizabeth Longshore; brothers-in-law Robert Osburn, James F. Bowman, and Alfred Cleveland; sisters-in-law Doris Bowman Jones and Imogene Bowman Cleveland; and grandson Christopher Bowman. Visitation will be at Bates-Cooper Sloan Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, TX, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 27. Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, at East New Hope Baptist Church near Mount Pleasant with interment in the East New Hope Cemetery following the service.
