The son of Percy Morrison Baird and Ruth Leonard Baird, he was born April 25, 1912 in Chester, N.Y.
Mr. Baird was a volunteer fireman since 1950; past captain for the Sugar Loaf Fire Department; and with his father and brother, Dan, he was a dairy farmer in Sugar Loaf. He raised Superior Holstein Stock animals and supplied them to many farms in New York State and South America. He was good friends to all the farmers in the area. He loved to hunt, fish and talk with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Ballard Baird, at home; son, M. William Baird and his wife, Jean, of Westport, N.Y.; sister, Elaine E. Gross of Keene Valley, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Lorraine Swinyer; four grandchildren: Mark Baird, Tamara Ryder, Julie Holbrook, and Sean Baird; six great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Zachary Ryder, Austin and Sadie Holbrook, Cory and Taylor Baird; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Robert N. Baird; a sister, Marjorie Quinby Swinyer; and a brother, Howard Leonard Baird.
Visitation will be at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 S. Church St., Goshen, N.Y. on Monday May 2, 2005 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Mary Howell officiating. Interment will be in Hamptonburgh Cemetery, Hamptonburgh, N.Y.
