"Carrie Brown, 87, Coalfield

"Carrie Magrada Brown, 87, of Coalfield, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1993, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her parents Sam L. and Josephine Fagan Davis, her husband Sam Carson Brown, two children Josephine Butler and Lewis V. Brown, two brothers Hobart Davis and Ellis Davis, three sisters Frankie Jackson, Myrtle Cox and Blanche Rhoades [Rhodes].

"She was a lifelong resident of this area. Her hobbies were flowers, gardening and being a mother. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield.

"Her survivors include seven daughters and two sons-in-law Carlye and Carl Davis of Sarasota, Fla., Regina Brown of Atlanta, Ga., Phyllis Cole of Oak Ridge, Carol Oakler of Oliver Springs, Catherine Brown of Coalfield, Flora Risner of Coalfield, Paulette and Fred Wright of Orlando, Fla[.]; two sons and daughters-in-law Paul E. and Hassie Brown of Waverly, Ga., Michael and Debbie Brown of Coalfield.

"Other survivors are Tammy and Alvin Sandlin of Coalfield, Polly and David Philpot of London, Ky., Holly Shackleford of Coalfield, Robin and John Dooley of Louisville, Ky., Frank L. and Amanda Loughran of Evansville, Ind., Tina Loughran of Atlanta, Ga., Adele and Lonnie Justice of Coalfield.

"Mrs. Brown, by birth, was the mother of 11 children, but the mother to 18.

"Also survived by 36 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; two sisters Aileen [Eileen] Heidle [Heidel] of Knoxville and Jo Ann Webber [Weber] of Indianapolis, Ind.

"Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 30, 1993, 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Sharp Funeral Home of Oliver Springs. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday at the Davis Cemetery in Coalfield. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs."
