|Death: ||Apr. 12, 1902|
John E. Burt was born in 1850, a native of Pennsylvania. A long way from home, at the age of 30, John married Miss Charlotte Dominici on September 7, 1881.
The Burt's were not landowners as most of the rest of the family, and according to statistics printed in the Stanislaus County Directories for the years 1890 - 1895, John was a restaurant owner, a farmer and the proprietor of the Eureka Saloon. As another employment opportunity, John would also sometimes drive the stage coach from La Grange to Modesto and back. The stage was frequently held up and John had the unfortune to be robbed by one of the notorious bandits of the time, Joaquin Marrietta.
John Burt died on April 12, 1902 at the age of 53. He was survived by his wife Charlotte and three children, Mary Matilda (Mamie), Edna and William Edward.
He is buried in the La Grange Cemetery.
