Robert Paul "Abe" Allen of Mount Angel, Ore., died at Licensed Residential Care Facility.
Mr. Allen was a native of Abington, Ill., and had lived in Mount Angel since 1995. He lived in Monrovia from 1906 to 1938, La Grange from 1938 to 1981, and Oakdale from 1981 to 1995.
He was an entomologist for the state of California for 37 years and also was sexton at the La Grange Cemetery from 1973-81.
He was a member of the Entomological Society of America, California Native Plant Society, Lepidopterist Association, Nature Conservancy and a life member of U.C. Berkeley Alumni Association. Thousands of his insect specimen collections are in California State Collections and California Academy of Sciences.
He is survived by his children, Peter Allen of Silverton, Ore., Perry Allen of Albany, Ore., and Karen Allen of Grass Valley; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Allen.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at La Grange Cemetery.
