Keota, OK-BUFFINGTON, Melvin Thomas, 71, retired heavy equipment operator, died Sunday. Visitation 1-7 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Mallory Chapel, Keota. Services 2 p.m. Wednesday, Victory Worship Center, Spiro, Mallory-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory, Stigler.
Melvin Thomas Buffington of Keota was born Feb. 25, 1939, in Jingle Mountain to Melvin Thomas Buffington and Velma (Autry) Buffington (Lawson) and died Jan. 16, 2011, in Keota at the age of 71. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, cooking, gardening, and country music. He also loved working a dozer. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of the home; three daughters, Sharron Nagle of Tamaha, Jacqueline Bradshaw and husband Scott of Fort Joe, Fla., and Amber Anderson and husband Bernie of Oklahoma City; two sons, Melvin Buffington and wife Cheryl of Marion, Ill., and Jeffery Buffington and wife Kathy of Spiro; two sisters, Linda McBride of Edmond, and Demaris Woods of Sand Springs; three brothers, Sid Lawson, Lonzo Lawson and wife Nancy of Keota, and C.J. Lawson and wife Phyllis of Keota; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Romie Buffington and Regina Carry; and one son, Scott Buffington. Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at Victory Worship Center in Spiro with the Rev. Tommie Parker officiating. Burial followed at Star Cemetery in Keota under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory. Pallbearers were Wes Buffington, Cody Buffington, James Buffington, Jeremiah Buffington, Brian McKinney and Jonah Buffington. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Bradshaw, Bernie Anderson, Lindsey Perry and Jeremy Warren.
