Co F 1st Regiment Kansas Colored Volunteer
While on a foraging detail near Sherwood, Missouri, a detachment of the 1st Kansas Colored Infantry were attacked by Confederate forces under Thomas R. Livingston. No quarter was given the wounded African Americans. Sherwood was then summarily burned by Jayhawkers in retaliation for the Black troops' massacre.
