Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Saturday, October 19, 1968:
Mrs. Louise A. Ahrens, 78, of 410 Scott St., Edwardsville, died at 4:10 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland, where she had been a patient three weeks. She had been injured in an auto accident.
Mrs. Ahrens was a lifelong resident of the Edwardsville area. She was born Dec. 10, 1889, at Prairietown, a daughter of the late Henry and Louisa Zimmerman Klein.
She was married to William Ahrens in April, 1938, at Edwardsville. He died in December, 1943.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Ahrens was assistant superintendent of the Madison County Historical Museum. She had been employed there since January, 1962.
Prior to that she was employed in the county clerk's office from April, 1944, to October, 1961. Before that, she was with Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 33 years, retiring Aug. 1, 1943.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Emil H. Klein of Mt. Vernon, and two nieces, Mrs. Jack Garrison of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Philip Prior of San Rafael, Calif.
Mrs. Ahrens was a charter member of the Edwardsville Business and Professional Women's Club, a member of the Monday Club, Madison County Historical Society, Land of Goshen Historical Society, Lusk Memorial Cemetery Association, Woodlawn Cemetery Association and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Luthern Ladies Society of the church. She was a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday at Lesley Marks Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at Trinity Lutheran Church from noon to 2 p.m. Monday.
Services at 2 p.m. in the church will be conducted by the Rev. Arthur Herpolsheimer. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
