Robert Raymond Allen Sr., 76, of Rockford died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, in the Rockford Memorial Hospital emergency room. Born Aug. 26, 1931, in Rockford, the son of Charles James and Violet Gertrude Ary Allen. Married to Judy Mae Eddy in Kileen, Texas, on Jan. 22, 1951. Robert was the service technician at Martin Gustafson Appliance Co. for 48 years until it closed, and he re-tired. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas, and also in Germany. Member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he was Boy Scout Master of Troop 38, a member of Order of the Arrow, coached baseball at Northwest Community Center, and a was member of Belvidere Moose Lodge. He loved to fish and was an avid morel mushroom hunter. He also followed the Cubs and the Bears, and he enjoyed music all of his life. Survivors in-clude his wife, Judy; sons, Daniel and Robert R. II (Debbie) Allen of Rockford and Mark (Jeanette) Allen of Cortez, Colo.; daughters, Debbie (Michael) Dauenbaugh and Teri (Robert) Shepard of Rockford; brothers, Donald (Sherry) Allen of Mabank, Texas, and Ronald (Theresa) Dow of Mount Home, Ark.; sisters, Shirley (Nick) Beddow of Eugene, Ore., and Patricia Mosier of Mabank, Texas; nine grandchildren; four great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brother-in-law, Raymond Mosier.
Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, in Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. George David officiating. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and from 10 a.m. to service time on Tuesday. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Memorials may be given in care of the family.
