CANTON, IL - Jairus D. "Shag" Armstrong of Canton died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Heartland Health Care Manor, Canton.
He was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Macomb to Dean and Donna (Gordon) Armstrong. He married Barbara Lynn Nelson on March 28, 1966, in Canton.
She survives, along with one daughter, Teri Atencio of Lancaster, Calif.; two sons, Stephen Gardner Armstrong of Canton and Derek Jay (Pamela) Armstrong of Dunlap; and four grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he taught automotive school for two years.
He was a member of the Cuba American Legion.
He retired from Caterpillar after 28 years.
Jairus was an avid pool player and played in many leagues.
Graveside services will be on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. The Rev. Greg Ogle will officiate. Visitation will be the same day from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton. Cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
