Alid Evelyn (Ginger) Bondus
January 25, 1910 - December 27, 2007
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away December 27, 2007 after a brief illness. Alid was born on a farm in Gaza, Iowa on January 25, 1910. She was one of five children of William and Lulu Ginger. She grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Home Economics in 1932. She met Milton Bondus at Iowa State and they married in 1936. They were married for 52 years until Milton's death in 1988.
She is survived by their three children, Lu (Bill) Salisbury, Tucson; Judy (Dave) Frey, South Bend, IN; and Richard Bondus, Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, a brother, Jack (Dolores) Ginger of Primghar, IA, and a brother-in-law, Ken Bondhus, of Mesa, AZ. She was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy (Ginger) Lubischer, Margaret (Ginger) Bain and a brother, James Ginger.
Her early passions were horseback riding, and dancing. After her early career as a high-school teacher, principal, and high-school basketball coach, her lifelong career became the care of her husband and children. A natural hostess, she loved entertaining her friends and family. She was an active church member, and served in many capacities throughout the years.
She will be remembered for her enthusiasm for high school, college, and professional sports teams. She was especially fond of the University of Arizona teams. Until recently, she was creating knit fashions for her family, as well as knitting doll clothes and blankets for underprivileged children, winning at bridge while playing with her friends at the Forum of Tucson where she spent her last 12 years.
The family is especially grateful for the caring staff at El Rancho Encanto where she spent her last months. Memorial service 1100 a.m., Friday, January 25, 2008 at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.
