Mrs. Emma Alexander, widow of the late James Alexander, who some forty years ago was deputy county clerk of Fayette county, died Saturday morning, March 18th,at two o'clock, at the home of her niece, Miss Zora Cole in ramsey, aged 82 years, 4 months and 4 days.
Emma Geneva, daughter of Samuel and Melinda Little, was born on a farm in Ramsey township Nov.9,1869. She was married to James L. Alexander, Feb.5,1880(Fayette Co). Mr. Alexander died Feb.19,1920. During the time he was duputy county clerk they made their home in Vandalia.
Early in life, the deceased united with the Primitive Baptist church and remained a faithful member all her life, being a member of the Liberty Primitive Baptist church at the time of her death.
Surviving her are two foster children, Joe Wright, of Vandalia, and Mrs. G.M. Grandfield, Decatur; five grandchildren, two nieces, Miss Zora Cole and Mrs. Homer Casey, both of Ramsey, and a nephew, Dr. O.J.Culbertson, Was St. Louis. One sister and two brothers, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at the Hunter Funeral Home in Vandalia Monday afternoon at two o'clock with Elder D.E. Baker of Charleston officiating. Interment was in South Hill cemetery here.
