SWAN ANDERSON, VARNA, HURT JULY 4th IN CRASH, DIES

RESIDENT OF VARNA FOR YEARS; WAS RURAL MAIL CARRIER SINCE 1910

Funeral services for the late Swan Albert Anderson, were held at the home Tuesday at 1:30 and from the Varna First Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Karl Nilsson, officiating.
A large concourse of friends attended the services in token of their respect for an old friend.
His death was due to injuries received in an automobile accident on July 4th.
Swan Albert Anderson was born September 6, 1868 in Henry County, Illinois. He came with his parents to the vicinity of Varna when a small child, where he has since resided.
He received a Christian education and was confirmed in the First Lutheran Church, Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 1885.
He is survived by six brothers and three sisters: Wilbert of Chicago; Frank, Lawrence, Andrew and Elmer of Cambridge; Mrs. Phoebe Anderson and Mrs. Hilma Carlson of Peoria; Mrs. Josie Fritz and Charles of Varna. One sister, Mrs. Emma
Wahlquist preceded him in death nearly five years ago.
His sister, Mrs. Josie Fritz, has been his faithful housekeeper and companion since the death of his mother.
Shortly after his auto accident, he was taken to St. Mary's hospital at Streator for care. He passed away at the hospital at about 10:30 Saturday evening, August 6th.
Relatives and friends made repeated visits to his bedside while he was in the hospital, and beautiful flowers were in evidence at the funeral as the last tokens to a beloved friend.
Casket bearers were: Oscar Olson, Oliver Extrom, Emiel Lundgren, Oscar Flesberg, Charles Bergsten and Arthur Hultgren.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the Mail Carriers' association, as he had been the faithful mail carrier out of the Varna post office since April 1910.
The following members of the Rural Letter Carriers' association to which he belonged, attended and services in a body:
Frank Gill, president of the association, Guy Little, George Furrow and Postmaster Walter Lesch, all of Washburn; G. E. Thomas, secretary of the association and C. A. Berkett of Washington, IL; V. Powers, Sam Willman, Casper Schrepfer of Metamora; V. Buck and W. Broaddus of Lacon; Raymond Zilm of LaRose; Postmaster H. E. Broaddus and L. H. Broaddus of Varna.
Relatives from out-of-town attending the funeral services were: Mrs. DeMoure, Mrs. H. Bruennenmyer and children, Mrs. F. Fouser, Mr. and Mrs. Vic Carlson and son Walter and Mrs. Phoebe Anderson, all of Peoria; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Anderson and Gene of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Anderson, Andrew and Elmer Anderson of Cambridge; Mr. and Mrs. George Bergsten and son of Rockford; an old friend, George Meiries and son George of Peoria.
Interment was made in the Salem Cemetery (First Lutheran # 1) at Varna, IL.
