Wallace A. Carlson, 90, of Henry, passed away on August 10. 2015, at Manor Court Skilled Care in Peoria.
Born on April 14, 1925 in Magnolia, IL, to the late John Albert and Mary Smith Carlson. He married Irene Anderson on February 21, 1946 in Varna. Irene passed away in July of 2001.
Wally served his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II and returned home to work at Ford Tractor Company in Henry. In. 1951, Wally purchased a share in the local Ford dealership and then in 1959 became sole owner of the Henry Motor Company until 1970. In 1971 he went to work for Henry State Bank as a cashier, retiring in 1988 as Vice President.
In retirement, Wally took up wood carving, specializing in song birds. He enjoyed giving them to family and friends. Wally's song birds were truly works of art and labors of love.
He was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church of Varna, where he served as usher for 70 years. Wally also served on the church board for over 40 years. For 65 years, he belonged to the Henry American Legion Post #323 and was a former Rotarian.
Wally is survived by: daughter Jimette (Rick) Beil of Peoria; son Ten (Debbie) Carlson of Peru; grandchildren David (Autumn) Lenz Jr. of Lacon; Lisa (Brad) Lindstrom of Lostant; Kate (Evan) McColley of Orlando, FL; Beth (Andrew) Hughes of Jackson, MI; Ben Carlson of Jackson, MI; step-granddaughters Jennifer Beil of Washington and Renee Drake of Orland, CA; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Wally also had a fond love of all his nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Ella Mobeck.
Services will be held on August 15 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Varna, IL. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon and also one hour prior to services at his church.
Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery # 2 in rural Varna. Memorial contributions can be made to his church.
