VARNA: Richard "Rich" Coleson, 85, of 716 Main Street, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, at St. Mary's
Hospital in Streator.
Born August 20, 1917, in Henry to Ed and Allie Carlson Coleson, he married Virginia Mae Walin on December 31, 1941, in Varna. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Carol Sanger of San Diego, California; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
A World War II Navy veteran, he served as a ship fireman on the USS General E. T. Collins. He was a charter member of Varna American Legion Post 892.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for eight years before entering the Navy and returned there, working until 1948. He farmed in rural Varna until retiring in 1986.
He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Varna, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Lane Knouse will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery #2 in rural Varna. Arrangements are by Varna Funeral Home.
