James E. "Jim" Barry of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Bradford, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012.
Jim was born on Dec. 16, 1948, to William K. and Kathryn (Murphy) Barry.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Francis.
He is survived by his sisters, Marilyn Born and Kaye (Richard) Franks, both of the Denver, Colo., area. His surviving nieces and nephews are Gretchen and Gerilyn Born and Damon (Kirsta) and Justin (Mindy) Franks, also of Denver, and Brett Barry of Ogden, Utah; and eight grand-nieces and -nephews.
Jim graduated from St. John's Grade School in Bradford. His parents moved to Aledo, Ill., in 1962 and he graduated from Aledo High School.
He received his bachelor's degree from St. Ambrose College in 1970.
His career spanned several professions. The most significant was in the horse business, first as co-owner of Bradford Bloodstocks and most recently with Peninsula Farms of Lexington, Ky. In between, he worked in the car business, mortgage banking and for a time in the art world in Sante Fe, N.M.
While living in Denver, Jim bought and refurbished a house that became his beloved Barryscourt (named after a castle in Ireland). There, he tended his flowers and displayed his Western art collection.
Jim was a kind and giving person. His generosity began at a young age. He taught his cousin Pat to ride a bike. Though he did not have children himself, he always was generous to the younger relatives. He also stayed in close contact with relatives and friends of all ages.
Though Jim left Bradford many years ago, he always considered it home and stayed in touch with his many friends and relatives from this area.
Although he has gone to his eternal rest, Jim will be remembered fondly by all those who knew him.
He was buried in St. John's Cemetery in Bradford.
