Herman Jannick dies near Oconee
Oconee, Feb. 5. – Herman Jannick (transcriber note: the last name was occasionally recorded with an "ick" ending instead of "ink"), aged sixty-five died in his home at 6 o'clock Sunday morning, one mile east of Oconee, of a complication and hiccoughs. He was an active farmer and had lived here for many years.
He was born Feb. 25, 1858 in New Schoonbeck, Holland (transcriber note: this should read "Nieuw Schoonebeek, Netherlands"), coming to this country when a small boy (he arrived 13 May 1882 as a 24 year old man on the SS Jason from the port of Amsterdam to the port of New York). He was twice married. His first marriage was to Miss Mary Helena Rakers, Aug. 11, 1885. To this union two children were born (transcriber note: there were more children who died very young), Henry of Pocahontas, Ia., and Sister Mary Gertrude of St. Theresa academy at Decatur, Ill. Mrs. Jannick died in 1894.
In 1895 he was again wed to Miss Zena (Gezina) Husen, who died in 1919. Five children survive this union, Herman Jr., Ben, Gerhart, Catherine, and Lena, all of Oconee.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at nine o'clock at Sacred Heart church in Oconee and will be conducted by Rev. Fr. Wubbe, pastor of the church. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery, East of Oconee. Funeral Director Dennis Kennedy of Shelbyville in charge.

Herman Jannink Dies.
Hiccoughs developing into heart trouble caused the death of Herman G. Jannink of Oconee who died in the family home early Sunday morning. He was born Feb. 25, 1858 in New Schoonbeck Holland. He was twice married. August 11, 1885 he was married to Miss Mary Helena Rakers. His first wife died in 1894. In 1895 he was married to Miss Mary Husen who died in 1919. He leaves two children Henry, Pintah Minnesota and sister Mary Gertrude, Decatur. Funeral services will be held in the Scared Heart church in Oconee but the arrangements have not been completed.
