Daughter of Abraham F. and Katherine Wiens.
She married George G. Dick July 2, 1938, at Chicago.
"Helene Wiens grew up in the mission home of her parents, Abraham and Katherina Wiens in chicago. She attended the grade schools of Chicago and graduated from Harrison high School in 1932.
For some time she helped the family finances by working at Sears Roebuck in the Banking Department. Then she enrolled in Northern Baptist Seminary where she received the B.R.E. (Bachelor's of Religious Education) degree. She was active in the educational and musical activities at the mission and at other churches.
The Dicks entered the Home Mission work of the General Conference in 1938 by taking over the Mission of the Lima Mission of Middle District Conferences. George was ordained as a pastor and elder.... they worked in this mission for five years. Then they moved to Bloomfield, Montana, where Rev. Dick served the Bloomfield Mennonite Church from 1943-1955. Then the family moved to Winton, California where they served the Winton Mennonite Church. At Winton they tried to subsidize the family income and also give work to their children by operating an almond orchard....
The family then moved to Gulfport, Mississippi, where they spent one year in Voluntary Service. This proved to be a most enlightening and rewarding experience for the entire family....Helene supplemented the family income through public school teaching."
