Bernice J. Anderson, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at her daughter's home in Davis Junction, IL. Bernice was born December 12, 1919 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Nellie (nee Williams) Kroll. She was united in marriage to William Anderson on September 22, 1939 in Batavia, IL.
Bernice was a dedicated and hardworking mother and wife, who raised seven children. Bernice was a helpful hand in all her husband's ventures. She helped her husband William with the construction and operation of the original Batavia Popcorn Depot. She was also the mainstay at the Anderson Restaurant in Earlville, which they ran from 1969 until 1974. Bernice and her husband had enjoyed life to the fullest, and had resided in Elburn, Earlville, Shabbona, Malta, Arkansas and even California, but Batavia is still the place they called home. Bernice retired from Northern Illinois University from her job in food service. She will never be forgotten by her loving family and friends.
She is survived by her husband; five children, Sharon McManus of Davis Junction, Dennis (Vicky) Anderson of Midland, MI, Debra (Joseph) Fox of Serena, IL, Joseph (Donna) Anderson of Cherokee Village, AR and Mimi (Steve) O'Dell of Malta, IL; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two sisters in-law, Maxine Dreymiller of Batavia and Lois (Jack) Lincoln of Batavia.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Schliefer; a son, James Anderson; one sister, Katherine Willwerth; and one sister in-law, Frances Hartman.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2005 at Moss Family Funeral Home. 209 South Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. The funeral will proceed to Holy Cross Catholic Church. 2300 W. Main St., Batavia, where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Rev. James Parker is celebrant. Committal services will follow the Mass at River Hills Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Dennis, Joe, Trent, Brad, Steven, Billy, Michael, Richard and Scott.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bernice's memory may be directed to Ogle County Hospice.
