Miriam was born in Kenney on Sept. 26, 1912, the daughter of Harry K. and Lady Buchanan Spillman Cantrell. She married Raymond Louis Abbott on Jan. 6, 1934, in Tuscola. Raymond passed away Jan. 17, 1998.
Surviving are one son, Jim (Laurie) Abbott, Torrance, Calif.; four daughters, Jane (Bill) Conn, Clinton;
Marilyn Humphrey, Orange, Calif.; Marty (Joe) Hayes, Ankeny, Iowa; and Marleen Monts, Bloomington; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Marjorie; one son-in-law; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Illinois State University. She was a longtime teacher. She was a member of DeWitt-Logan County Retired Teachers Association, Royal Neighbors, Delta-Kappa Gamma and the Kenney United Methodist Church. She taught piano and was a longtime music director at the church, where she played the piano and directed the choir. Miriam will be remembered for her love of family, devotion to church and her dedication to her student's education.
The family would like to thank the nurses and CNAs of Hawthorne Inn Nursing Home, Clinton, for all their caring and kindness.
