David Milton Babcock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Babcock, 23 W. Empire Street, died in a local hospital Sunday morning March 22, 1959 after a prolonged illness. He was born in Decatur, September 8, 1937 and graduated from Freeport High School with the class of 1955. He attended College of William & Mary at Williamsburg, Virginia for three years, until illness forced him to leave. He was considered one of the school's outstanding music students and was listed as an honor school. For several years prior to his illness he played with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra and Freeport Concert Band and was active in musical programs at Freeport High.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Stephen, a Naval Air Force cadet, stationed at Pensacola, Florida; one sister, Martha, at home; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Babcock of Rockford. Service will be in the Walker Mortuary at 3 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Paul Bloomquist, pastor of Embury Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of Freeport High School music department.
