Birth: Jan. 2, 1829
Brandenburg, Germany
Death: Aug. 20, 1897
Rock Island County
Illinois, USA

Frederick Behrendt was born Jan 2, 1829 in the province of Brandenburg, Germany, where he was reared and educated in his native language, and at the age of twenty he entered the German army, where he served for three years, during which time he participated in two wars, Bardenben and Schleswig-Holstein. He was married in his native land in 1854 to Maria Hachrat, also of German birth, and engaged in farming and working by the day when not called out for military service.

In 1872 with the hope of bettering his financial condition, Mr Behrendt sailed for the new world, and came at once to Rock Island County, Illinois, where he rented one hundred acres of land in Coe Township for six years. During his residence on that place he owned and operated one hundred sixty acres additional for one year, and later spent three years on a hundred and sixty acre farm in Coe Township, which he rented, but at the end of that time purchased his late fine farm of two hundred fifty seven acres in Zuma Township. He also had purchased another fine farm of two hundred and ten acres in Canoe Creek Township. The home place is improved with good and substantial buildings, a fine orchard and the land is under a high state of cultivation, making it one of the most desirable farms in the locality.

Mr & Mrs Behrendt became the parents of six children: Dora, wife of August Wilkin, of Hampton Township; Minnie, wife of Christ Bartsh, of Coe Township; Anna, wife of Herman Schwenecker, of Coe Township; and Frederick, William & Charley, who assisted their father in the operation of the home farm, and still reside on the old homestead.

On the 20th day of August, 1897, Mr Behrendt died, after an illness of twenty four days, having always been prior to that a stout and healthy man.
