Nancy Adkins died October 17, 1898 at 7 o'clock; she passed away quietly into the fathomless beyond. Mrs. Adkin was of a kind and very genial disposition, a good friend and neighbor. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church with interment at the new cemetery.
Nancy Jones was born in Owen County KY on December 22, 1822 to Caleb and Sarah Jones; they were of English and Irish descent. On August 27, 1840 she was united in marriage with Charles Wesley Harris and to them were born nine children, of whom are living: William, Solomon KS; Martha, wife of L. W. Patterson of Manhattan KS; Nannie C. of Abilene KS; and Edward, formerly of this city. In 1844 they came to Illinois and Mr. Harris died of lung fever in 1858.
On December 6, 1860 Mrs. Harris was married to B. F. Adkins, who survives her. They lived on a farm about three miles from this city until five years ago when they moved to this city, where they have since resided.
