Violet Delores Casteel, 89, of Waterloo, died December 26, 2015.

Violet was born September 15, 1926 in Maeystown, Ill., daughter of Adam and Lydia Grittmann.

She married Glen Casteel on February 11, 1945 in St. Louis, MO.

Violet had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Schoitz Hospital and as a private duty nurse until she retired in 1983.

She and Glen were active members of Central Christian Church for over 50 years. They also spent many years as snowbirds in Arizona, traveling there with church friends and other John Deere retirees.

Violet is survived by Glen, her husband of 70 years; two daughters, Dr. Nancy Casteel of Chicago, Ill. and Kathleen (Richard) Boudreau of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; a son, Douglas (Virginia) Casteel of Waterloo; four grandchildren: LTJG Bradley (Jodi) Casteel of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Brandon (Regan) Casteel of Urbandale, Iowa, Cassandra Edwards of Citrus Heights, California, and Christopher (Aubrey) Boudreau of Carson City, Nevada; four great-grandchildren: Zailey and Zoie Casteel and Brady and Beckett Edwards; and two sisters, Ruth (Sam) Huntoon of St. Louis, MO and Ethel (Floyd) Foster of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice (Paul) Pyatt; and four brothers: Adam Grittmann, William Grittmann, Robert (Betty) Grittmann, and Leroy (Jean) Grittmann.

Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2016, at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 3475 Kimball Ave., Waterloo. Cemetery: Monroe City Cemetery, Monroe City, Illinois
