William Riley Atchison was born in Kentucky while his family was enroute to Lawrence County, Indiana. Eleven days later his family arrived at their destination Feb 22,1830, having traveled by wagon train from North Carolina.
Many families came on this train in search of land. He went to Clay County, Illinois after the Civil War. His two younger brothers served in Co. K, 17th Indiana Volunteers, and others of the same family did also. There were several different spellings, but the same ancestors.
Thanks to Marvin Atchison for this information.
