Merle E. Adams, 47, of Maroa died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday in Decatur Memorial Hospital. He collapsed while playing in a Class B softball game in Maroa.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Maroa Christian Church. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Monday at the Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Maroa. Friends may also call from 11 a.m. until services time at the church. Burial will be in Maroa Cemetery.
Mr. Adams was born in Macon County, a son of Lynn and Harriett Sturgeon Adams.
He was a World War II veteran. He worked as a telegrapher for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 25 years, where he was a Maroa Agent until the Maroa Station closed. He had been a part-time employee of Goldblatt's Department Store in Decatur.
He married Jeanette Dye on April 21, 1945, in Decatur, IL.
Surviving are his wife; mother, of Decatur; daughters, Debra and Cindy, both at home; son, Paul at home; sister, Mrs. Margaret Cain of Decatur; and brother, Dale of Maroa.
