August Anderson, 81, Father of Mayor, Succumbs to Illness----

August Anderson 81, father of Mayor Joe E. Anderson, and a highly respected resident of Galesburg for the past fourty-one years died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Magnuson, 828 East Berrien street, Friday afternoon at 5:00 o'clock. Mr. Anderson suffered a stroke eight years ago, but was able to be about his home on Peck street until two years ago when he became bedfast. Since that time he has had the devoted care of his daughter, Mrs. Albin Nelson. until two months ago, when he was removed to the home of another daughter, Mrs. John A Magnuson. He appeared to be in his usual health until two days ago when he b ecame seriously ill and sank rapidly until the end came yesterday.

Mr. Anderson was born in Sweden January 23, 1851, and was married there to Anna Anderson, May 23, 1878. In 1890 he emigrated to America with his family, coming direct to Galesburg, and has since made his home here.

For twenty-five years Mr. Anderson was employed as a mechanic in the Burlington roundhouse. Later he was employed in the city water department and then was caretaker of Standish Park until forced to resign because of ill health eight years ago.

Mr. Anderson was a devoted member of the Swedish Mission church and until his failing health prevented, was active in its work. He was much interested in civic affairs and paid keen attention to the progress and betterment of the city.

Mrs. Anderson passed away three years ago. He is survived by seven children, Mrs. Albin Nelson, Mrs. Fred Larson, Mayor J.E. Anderson, L.T. Anderson, Mrs. Paul Clausen, Mrs. John Magnuson, all of Galesburg, and Robert Anderson of Pittsburgh, Pa., and fourteen grandchildren. Three children died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00p.m., at the home, 809 Peck street and at 2;30p.m. at the Swedish Mission church in charge of the Rev. J. Alfred Johnson.
