Anthony Alexander, 84, of Havana died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at ManorCare at Riverview in East Peoria.

Born March 31, 1919, in Pekin to Tersilio and Rose Druli Alesandrini, he married Lacie Gehring in 1936. She died in 1945.

He later married Evelyn Phelps on May 8, 1948, in Peoria. She died June 1, 1998.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers.

Surviving are one son, Richard of Mackinaw; and two daughters, Marty Sparks of Bartonville and Donna Roehrich of East Peoria.

A World War II Army veteran, he served in the European Theater and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

He owned and operated a grocery store on Merriman Street in Peoria until 1950. He also worked at Caterpillar Inc. for more than 30 years.

He was life member #1 and president of the Chautauqua-Goofy Ridge Sportsman's Club.

Cremation has been accorded.
