Roy L. Ewen, 80 of Pekin passed away at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Pekin Hospital.
He was born July 2, 1930 in Beardstown to James R. and Nora A. Cox Ewen. He married Virginia Savage on September 23, 1951 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2003 in Pekin. Also preceding him in death were three brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra (Harold) Hudson of Pekin, Nancy (Paul) Stanley of Coppell, Texas and Barbara (Bill) Dooley of Aurora, Colorado; six grandchildren; two great grandsons; five brothers, Ralph Garmon of Ashland; David Garmon, Ronald Garmon, Terry Garmon and Larry Garmon, all of Pekin and companion, Joyce Johnson of Pekin.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and attained the rank of Technical Sargent.
He owned and operated the Texas Barbershop since 1964 and was a barber at Wayne's Barbershop from 1949 until 1964. He also worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 15 years as a machine operator.
He enjoyed fishing, skiing, traveling, theater, serving others and vacationing at his cabin in Minnesota.
He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club, a member of the R.O.M.E.O.s (Retired Old Men Eating Out) Club, the 10-gallon blood donor club, the U.A.W. and the Barbers Union.
Roy was a 60-year member of First Church of the Nazarene, where he was Sunday school superintendent, a board member and director of snow retreat for 20 years through his church.
