Samuel S Cronkite was born on March 9, 1832, in New York.
He was 29 when he enlisted in Company H, First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry.
He was listed in St Paul Press on March 24, 1863, as having been admitted to the Newark Hospital on Sept 6, 1862, and was still there as of that date. The reason, for his being there, was listed as having an internal injury.
Samuel was wounded at Gettysburg on July 3rd, 1863, during Picket's charge. He was wounded in the head by an artillery shell. He spent time recovering at the Chestnut Hill Hospital, along with several other men from the First. The date of his discharge is not known.
Samuel died May 25, 1865.
