Mary Mellissa Beckhart married Doc. Thomas Owen Caldwell at Monticello, Ill. on April 18, 1875 at the age of 23. From sister Sarah's letter dated May 1875. Mary and Dr. were married on April 18, 1875 and left for Iowa on the 19th. Dr. was dressed in a new black broadcloth suit with black kid gloves. Mary was dressed all in white with white gloves. She had a white wreath on her head. They looked very nice.

On May 23, 1881, Today took train at Raymond for fathers (2 round trip tickets $8.30) found sister Mary bed fast with Consumption. She will die soon so we all think. She may last till fall.
Mary Mellissa had two daughters before she died, Carrie E. born 1876 and Nora E. born 1880.
