SPRINGFIELD - William F. "Bill" Aichele, Jr., 87, of Springfield, passed away at 12:05 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at St. John's Hospital.
Bill was born on November 10, 1921, in Shelbyville the son of William F. and Clara M. Waggoner Aichele. He married Kathyrn B. Neal on June 30, 1942 in Bolling Green, MO.
Bill graduated from Shelbyville High School and attended DePauw University. He was a salesman for Illinois Wholesale and retired after 26 years of service in 1986. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed overseas in North Africa and France.
He was a member of the American Legion in Chatham, and the VFW in Chatham. He loved playing golf and bridge, and was an avid sports fan, especially of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Preceding him in death are his parents; and a sister, Phyllis Pogue.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn B. "Kay" Aichele of Springfield; a son, William F. "Bill" (wife, Kathy) Aichele III of Sun Lakes, AZ; two daughters, Nancy (husband, Lloyd) Entringer of Sun Lakes, AZ, and Margaret (husband, Tom) Dlouhy of Springfield; three grandchildren, Shannon (husband, Chris) Zock of McHenry, Brian (wife, Stephanie) Aichele of Keller, TX, and Doug Dlouhy of Springfield; two great-granddaughters, Alexandra and Adrianna Zock of McHenry; two sisters, Joan E. Lawrence and Hope Hickman, both of Tuscon, AZ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. John Hamilton officiating.
Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009 with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
