James Dale Bartley, Jr., 55, Tompkinsville, died June 12, 2003, at his home. He was a construction worker, a member of the American Legion, and a Vietnam veteran. Born in Monroe County on May 28, 1948, he was a son of Dora (Gillenwater) Bartley, Tompkinsville, and the late James Dale Bartley, and the husband of Lela (Kirkpatrick) Bartley, who also survives. They were married Jan. 26, 1973, at the Tompkinsville Church of Christ. Other than his wife and mother, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanna and Ron Bean, Cookeville, Tenn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Judith Bartley, Gamaliel; five sisters and four brothers-in-law — Madelene Chandler, Bowling Green; Nelda and Travis Thomas, Neva Lou and Donald Reagan and Mary Ruth and David Earl Lyon, all of Tompkinsville; and Kathy and Bob Bentley, Nashville, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Michael Kirkpatrick, Celina, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 12 noon on June 13 at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with Bro. Ricky Shive and Bro. Max Petett officiating. Burial was at the Monroe County Memorial Lawn, with military rites conducted by the Glasgow DAV Chapter 20.
Serving as pallbearers were Christopher Bartley, Jamie Chandler, Maxie Gentry, Roger Gillenwater, Jeremy Lyon and Mark Williams. Honorary pallbearers were John Harlan, Kevin Deckard, Chris Comer, Richard Davis, Micah Bentley, Jordon and Joshua Williams, and George Chism.
