Margaret Alice ‘Peggy’ Abbott, age 89, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016.
Peggy, was born May 3, 1926, in DeKalb, the daughter of Patrick and Hannah Donlin.
On October 19, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, John R.’Jack’ Abbott, and together they raised a family of four daughters, Susan (Richard) Davis of New Jersey, Peggy Lee (Jack) Williams of DeKalb, Jacquelyn (Sam) Davis of Evanston and Tammie (John) Sullivan of Glen Ellyn.
Peggy was employed at Northern Illinois University for 24 years and retired in 1985.
She was a parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church, DeKalb, for 75 years. Peggy was active in the Catholic Daughters of America and also organized the funeral lunches for St. Mary's Parish for many years.
Peggy had a wonderful circle of friends and enjoyed their company through her participation in the Red Hat Society, sewing group, birthday lunch group and her high school -reunion coffee group.
She also volunteered her time to the Peddler Shop at the DeKalb County Rehabilitation Center.
Peggy especially enjoyed her time visiting with her daughters and grandchildren during her many trips to Florida, Lake Delavan and the Jersey Shore.
She is also survived by her cherished eight grandchildren, Farrah, Jaret and Torrie (Jackie's), Adam (Peggy's), Sean (Susan's), and Johnny, Margaret Mary and Nora Kay (Tammie's); and great-grandchild, Andersen, Farrah's daughter. Her loving family, extended family and her many friends will miss Peggy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jack, in March 2005; her grandson, Benjamin Williams in May 1999; and her three sisters, Catherine ‘Kay’ Mellon, Nora Lundgren and Mary Roby; and her brother, Mike Donlin.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 28, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 Pine Street, DeKalb, with Fr. Dean E. Russell celebrating.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb.
Arrangements entrusted to the Anderson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with a Catholic Daughters Service at 3:30 p.m.
