Robert L. "Bill" Adams, 85, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.

Born June 15, 1928, in Volga City, Iowa, the son of Walter Franklin and Viola Elizabeth (Carpenter) Adams, Billwas a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean Conflict for two years.

He worked for Union Electric 19 years as a machinist, and then for Barber-Greene Co. in DeKalb for 25 years, retiring in 1990.

Bill was very active in the American Legion for 48 years and was a member of the Legion Honor Guard for 30 years. He also was a lifetime member of DeKalb Moose and Knights of Columbus clubs and VFW.

For years every day, Bill left his home at 4 p.m. to see friends at the Moose Club and American Legion Post 66, with his final daily stop at Twin Tap.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter, Donald and Harvey; sisters, Hazel and Daisy; nephew, Terry; sister-in-law, Dorothy; and his long-time companion, Helen Goff.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Robert Vaughn of Malta Congregational Church officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb, with full military honors by American Legion, AmVets and VFW.
