Comstock served as a Private in Battery G 2nd Illinois Light Artillery from 1861 until his discharge due to disability July 27, 1864. Prior to the Civil War he was litsted as working as a farmer. He enlisted in DeKalb, Illinois.
He died in the county nursing home of what was listed as laryngeal teburculosis.
