Carl K. Allen, 80 years, of Virginia, IL and formerly of Beardstown, IL died Saturday evening, March 10, 2007 at Jacksonville Convalescent Center in Jacksonville, IL.

He was born April 16, 1926 in Beardstown, IL; the son of Lindsey E. And LaVeta L. Bowman Allen. He married Anna Belle Hederich on November 10, 1949 in Beardstown, IL and she preceded in death on October 6, 2006.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Colbert of Arvada, CO; three brothers, Everett Allen (wife, Cathy) of Carterville, Robert Allen (wife, Linda) of Polson, MT, and Roger Allen of Jacksonville; a sister, Maxine Ball (husband, Walter) of Sayre, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Allen attended Beardstown schools and proudly served his country during WW II as a member of the 2nd Marine Division, participating in the invasion of Saipan and the occupation of Japan. He was discharged on February 2, 1947. He returned to work as a lineman for CIPS, primarily serving the Beardstown and Virginia communities. He was a member of the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ in Beardstown, Virginia Lodge #544 AF & AM, and Beardstown VFW Post # 1239. He was a member of the Virginia Gun Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Some of my earliest, and fondest, childhood memories include accompanying my dad, Uncle Carl and his beloved dog Scout to various duck blinds along the Illinois River ... Rest in peace Uncle Carl ...
