Mr. Alert, beloved husband of Nancy C. Alert, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Jerry John Alert and Rose Anna Miazovsky Alert. He was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio with a chemical engineering degree. After graduation, Jerry went to work for Formica Corporation for 25 years. He later went to DHEC where he was an environmental engineer and retired after ten years of employment.
Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Nancy Catterton Alert of Columbia; daughters, Holly Cooper (Danny) and Nancy Link (Ed); sons, Jason Alert (Genevieve), Tom Alert (Amber Langley); stepson, David Beitz (Tiffany); grandchildren, Hannah and Noah Cooper, Becky Duffy (Tom), Amanda Heinl (Nick), Mitch Link, Beckett and River Rose Alert, Zachary and Nicholas Beitz; and great-granddaughter, Eliza Heinl. Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Alert.
