Lena, Ill. — Martha J. Heuer, 84, passed away on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, in Freeport.
Born on Oct. 19, 1926, to John and Martha (Tripp) Sibley in Owego, N.Y., she and her parents moved to Illinois in the 1930s, in the midst of the Depression.
She was married to Robert L. Heuer in 1947, and bore three children: Michael (Judith) Heuer of Collierville, Tenn.; Mark (Debbie) Heuer of Benton, Ky.; and Mary (Wesley) Zink of Cherry Valley.
During the course of their marriage, she was heavily involved in their cropdusting business from 1949 to 1953, and then in other aviation activities. In the 1970s and 1980s, she was a key volunteer at the EAA Fly-In Convention in Oshkosh, Wis., where she worked with other members of her family.
A woman who loved life and her family, she was very involved in crafts and to this day, many members of her family enjoy the products of her skills and attention.
She was an enormously curious and intellectually active person with an almost photographic memory who would regale her family with stories and her wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by her three children; grandchildren, Theresa (Walter) Lovings of Papillon, Neb., Karen Foley of Loves Park, Kristen (Jerod) Rife of Eagle River, Alaska, Benjamin Heuer of Eolia, Mo., and Bethany (Tim) Nothaker of Eolia; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her parents and sister, Gertrude Mattingly, pre-deceased her.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, at Honquest Funeral Home, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Rockford Chapel, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time.
Pastor Jim Harker of Woosung, Ill., will officiate. Burial will be at the family plot in New Bedford, Ill.
