Gladys C Rourke-Blackwood and her husband Merl Arlo Blackwood were well known artists, having both graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago, her with Honors. They have four historical diaramas on permanent display at the Stephenson County Historical Museum. Gladys had accomplishments in her own right of illustrating and publishing children's books, greeting cards, wrapping papers, one Christmas paper was purchased and used exclusively by Marshall Fields Department store in downtown Chicago.
