IRONS - Minnie L. Irons, about 73, 223 Oak Knolls ave., died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday in a car while on the way to a family reunion picnic on the outskirts of Rockford. Born in rural Rockford, daughter of Franklin L. and Marie Scoville Irons. Lived 8 years in Rockford, coming here from Columbia, Mo. Member of Second Congregational church and of its Centennial circle, Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Outlook club, Rockford Woman's club, and numerous teachers' and educational organizations. She attended Rockford schools and received her BA degree from Indiana State Teachers college, Terre Haute and her MA degree from Teachers college Columbia university, New York City. She taught in Winnebago county schools and Rockford grade schools as well as at Indiana State Teachers college, Michigan State college, and the University of Missouri. She taught home economics. Survivors include: a number of cousins, including Mrs. Frank Feller, Mrs. W.W. Bennett, Charles C. Scovill, James and Seth Atwood, Bernita Foote, all of Rockford; Mrs. Luella Harrison, Lexington, KY; Prof. H.T. Scovill, Urbana. Two sisters, Myrtle and Mayme Irons, also teachers, preceded her in death. Services at 1 p.m. Wednesday in BURPEE-WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 420 N. Main st., with Dr. Joseph C. Cleveland, pastor of Second Congregational church officiating. Burial in Cedar Bluff cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Minnie L. Irons Dies; Last of Teaching Sisters

Services for Minnie L. Irons, about 73, 223 Oak Knolls ave., former home economics teacher in local schools and three colleges and universities who died Sunday, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Burpee-Wood funeral home, 420 N. Main st.

Dr. Joseph C. Cleveland, pastor of Second Congregational church, will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Bluff cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home from 7 to 8 o'clock tonight.

Miss Irons died about 12:40 p.m., apparently of a heart attack, in a car on the way to a family reuinion picnic at the outskirts of Rockford.

She returned to Rockford eight years ago upon retiring from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

She was born in rural Rockford, the daughter of Franklin L. Irons and Marie Scoville Irons.

Miss Irons was one of three sisters with wide teaching experience, Mayme E. Irons, Rockford, was at one time state chairman of the music committee of Illinois Lambda state organization, Myrtle Irons was art supervisor in the Rockford public schools. Both are deceased.

Minnie Irons attended Rockford schools and received a B.A. degree at Indiana State Teachers college, Terra Haute, and an M.A. at Teachers college of Columbia university, New York City.

She taught in Winnebago county rural schools and in Rockford grade schools, at Indiana State Teachers college, Michigan State college, and the University of Missouri.

She was a member of Second Congregational church, the church's Centennial circle, Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Outlook club, and the Rockford Woman's club.

She also was a member of the American Association of University Professors, American Association of University Women, American Education fellowship. American Home Economics association, Missouri Home Economics association, Missouri State Teachers association, Missouri Vocational Education association, National Education association, Pi Lambda Theta, and Phi Upsilon Omicron.

Survivors include eight cousins, Mrs. Frank Feller, Mrs. W. W. Bennett, Charles C. Scoville, James and Seth Atwood, and Bernita Foote, all of Rockford, Prof. H.T. Scoville, Urbana, and Mrs. Luella Harrison, Lexington, KY.
