Stanley I. Brown, 89, of Aledo, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton, where military services will be conducted. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. He was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Woodhull, son of Frank and Maude Bloomberg Brown. He attended local schools. He married Betty Van Eaton on Nov. 21, 1947, in Galesburg. She died in 1988. He married
Evelyn M. Artcher on May 26, 1990 in Aledo.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 78th Infantry Division in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge.
Stan's career as an auto and farm mechanic started with the Woodhull Garage in Woodhull and later at Wyckoff's in Aledo. He then owned and operated Brown's Garage in Seaton for many years, retiring in 1989.
His memberships include American Legion Post 121 and the VFW Post 1571. He enjoyed bowling, flower gardening, fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, a daughter, Linda (Lloyd) Ford, Aledo; two sons, Wayne (Sarah) Brown, Hedrick, Iowa, Curt (Carol) Brown, Aledo; stepdaughters, Linda (Jim) Hilligoss, Atlanta, Terry (Dennis) Miller, Bouton, Tenn.; stepsons, Mark (Cheri) Artcher, Aledo, Randy Artcher, Dallas, 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother Kenneth (Bernadine) Brown, Woodhull; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Brown and Miriam Landes, both of Woodhull, several nieces and nephews.
His parents; wife, Betty; three brothers, Bernard, Merrill and Carroll; and an infant sister preceded him in death.
