William M. Agles, 38, 137 S. Brown St., was one of four Madison County residents killed in weekend automobile accidents, according to State Police.
Mr. Agles, owner of the A and H Standard Service at Schwarz and South Buchanan Streets, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Granite City after the car he was driving crashed into the east end of the McKinley Bridge superstructure near St. Louis.
Mr. Agles was westbound on the bridge when the accident occurred at 11:55 p.m. Sunday. He was alone in the car.
Two other fatal accidents occurred on Illinois 157, within a half mile of each other and only hours apart.
Sheila L. Finchin, 17, of Caseyville, died in a three-car accident at 11:05 p.m. Saturday on Illinois 157 at the Glen Carbon Road intersection.
State Police said the car driven by Miss Finchin was southbound on Illinois 157 when it collided with a pickup truck driven by James A. Thompson, 58, of Glen Carbon, which was turning left from Glen Carbon Road onto Illinois 157.
Thompson was injured, as was Carl Akin, 31, East St. Louis, a passenger in the car driven by Miss Finchin.
State Police said that after the collision of the Thompson and Finchin vehicles, a third vehicle, driven by Donald R. Akin, 34, of Freeburg, traveling south on Illinois 157, struck the Thompson truck.
Donald Akin was also injured. The injured were taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Granite city.

Two persons from Collinsville were killed and another person was injured in a one-car accident on Illinois 157 a half mile south of Illinois 162 at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
State Police identified the dead as Donald J. Grzywacz, 24, driver of the car, and Theresa Grzywacz, 19, a passenger. Mary Lou Grzywacz, another passenger, also of Collinsville, was injured. She was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Granite City.
According to State Police, the Grzywacz car was southbound on Illinois 157 when it ran off the road and traveled 43 yards before striking a bridge rail. Both Donald and Mary Lou Gryzwacz were thrown from the car, police said.

He is also survived by a son, William Agles Jr. of Edwardsville, and a daughter, Angela Agles of Granite City. Other survivors are three brothers, Vincent Agles of Collinsville, and Marion Agles and Edward Agles, both of Edwardsville, and a sister, Mrs. James (Ruth) Flagg of Collinsville.
Mr. Agles was a member of the Edwardsville Moose Lodge, of Granite City Local 313 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers (IAMA), and of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Friends may call at Pletcher Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral Mass will be said Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., the Rev. William Stanley officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
