Samuel Bartley, 82, well known and highly respected citizen of the Calhoun community, passed away early Tuesday morning at Richland Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for only a few hours.
Mr. Bartley was born in Calhoun on April 29, 1873 and had spent his entire lifetime in the community. He was the son of Edward and Elvira Ekey Bartley. He was a long-time employee of the Illinois Central Railroad and had been employed as the station agent in Calhoun for 43 years.
He leaves his wife, Laura M., and a son, Ray Bartley of Calhoun. There are two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Also surviving are the following sistrs: Mrs. Mary Cordier of Mattoon, Mrs. Ethel Moore of Toledo, Mrs. Ursula Haney living in California, and Mrs. Leona Utterback of Danville.
Funeral services for Mr. Bartley will be held this afternoon at two o'clock in the Calhoun Methodist Church with the Rev. Dewey Hermes officiating. Interment will be in the Calhoun cemetery.
The body will remain at the Summers-Wilson Funeral Home until time for the services.
