Son of Archibald Allen. He was first married to Esther Glenn, their marriage license was issued on 22 Aug 1825 in Crawford County, Indiana, the exact marriage date is not known. They had 9 children: Archibald, Samuel Glenn, Elizabeth V., Nancy, John Hyrum, William, Thomas, Sarah and Isaac Glenn.
After Esther's death Hiram was married to Elizabeth Howell. They were married in 1841 in Putnam County, Illinois. They had 5 children: Mary, James Crawford, Eli, David and Hiram G.
His obituary was published in "Signs of the Times," in 1863:
Time is on the wing, and hurrying us onward to that bourne from whence none return. Death has again visited Sandy Creek Church and taken one of her number away to his reward. Died, April 23, 1863, of typhoid fever and inflamation of the bowels, Brother Hiram Allen. He was one of the first emigrants to the Ox-Bow Prairie, to which place he came from Kentucky, I think, in the year 1829. I have known him seventeen years. He has been a Baptist in sentiment for many years, but on account of his exciteable temperament, he was afraid to connect himself with the church, and so he lived out of his duty for years, until August 1854, when I had the pleasure of baptizing him in the fellowship of Sandy Creek Church. Ever since I have known him, he has been a regular attendant at the church, and his house was a home to the Baptists. He leaves a widow, with nine children, besides a numerous circle of friends and relatives, to mourn their loss. I remain your unworthy brother in the gospel, if a brother at all, Elder Robert F. Haynes.
