Doris L. Vass, 78, of Dallas City, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at her home.
She was born July 9, 1928, in Rensselaer, Ind., a daughter of Charles and Gladys Clark Torbet. On Sept. 4, 1948, she married Ward Vass in Rensselaer. He died Jan. 22, 1992.
She is survived by four daughters, Ada Vass of Colusa, Verla Custer of Jackson, Mich., Sally Patton of Warsaw, and Norene Ault of Toledo; three sons, Neal Vass and Clay Vass, both of Dallas City, and Carl Vass of Danville, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Marlene Streitmatter of Rensselaer; one brother, Jeryld Torbet of Rensselaer; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one foster sister, Bonnie Marchand.
She was born and raised near Rensselaer and lived in the Colusa area since 1953. She worked as a cook at the LaHarpe Hospital for nine years and at the Dallas City High School for 12 years. She was a member of the Colusa United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and served as district treasurer for the UMW. She was also a member of Gideons International.
Services were held Monday, Nov. 13, at the Colusa United Methodist Church. Rev. Beckie Laumeier officiated. Burial followed in the Byler Cemetery in Dallas City.
A memorial fund has been established for the Gideons International and Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.
