John Calvin Broady was the son of Joseph Broady, Sr. and his 2nd wife, Mary McFadden.
He married Anna WIGLE ABT 1836 in Liberty, Adams, Illinois. She was born 16 AUG 1818 in Illinois, and died on 26 OCT 1879 in Liberty, Adams, Illinois.
They had at least 9 known children.
"John C. seems to have married into a family of intelligence and worth, but rather inclined towards Universalism. So we find among them Judges and Lawyers, but no prominent church people. We may say that here is a lesson in "ENVIRONMENT." (from `The Joseph Broady Family,` a history by the Rev. William C. Broady, 1915).
John C removed to Adams County ILL about 1832. There he purchased a small tract of land, to which he added from time to time until he became the owner of 214 acres. So much did he enhance the value of his property... that the place was valued at at $10,000. He was active in politics as a staunch Democrat but steadfastly refused to accept public office. His parents were members of the Presbyterian church, but John C never united with any religious organization." (from son Jasper Broady`s bio)
He is called "Uncle Calvin Broady" in John L Wigle`s Oregon Trail memoir.
