JOHNSON BEEDLE, carpenter and farmer, was born February 8, 1812, in Monroe Couty, N. Y. There he took up the carpenter trade, which he followed till the age of twenty-four, when he moved to Terre Haute, Ind., and there carried on this trade, also farming, in all about sixteen years. He then came to Douglas County, Ill., entered eighty acres, and later bought college land; this land he afterward sold and bought 160 acres of Illinois Central Railroad land, which he now owns and has improved. This property he has earned by his own exertions.
He was married, June 17, 1833, to Harriet Loper, of Lockport, N. Y. She died in 1858, in age thirty-five. He has six living children--Sarah, Abram, Eastus, John, Frank and Asenath. Abram, John and Erastus served in the late war, also another son, William, who afterwad died, November 9, 1878.
His second marriage, September 12, 1854, was to Mrs. Margaret Westfall. She was born in Scioto County, Ohio. She had three children by her first marriage--R. E. H., F. T. Westfall and Olive S. (wife of James Lewis)
