The Rev. Howard C. BLACK, 74, of Benton died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center, Herrin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Benton with the Rev. Mike DAVIS and the Rev. Brian TRAMBLEY officiating. Burial will be in the Boner Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton. Rev. BLACK was born Feb. 25, 1931, in Xenia, the son of Lee BLACK and Beulah (BURROUGHS) BLACK. He married the former Ida STEWARD on June 8, 1953, and she survives. Rev. BLACK, a retired elder in the Church of the Nazarene, was a 1958 graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon and served in the Methodist ministry for 10 years. He retired from the ministry after serving with the Church of the Nazarene for over thirty years. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Benton.
Rev. BLACK is survived by his wife, Ida BLACK of Benton; three daughters, Ruth BLACK of Benton, Mona JONES and husband, Charles, of Tunnel Hill, and Sarah ADAMS and husband, Ken, of Sussex, Wis.; two sons, Harold Lee BLACK Sr. and wife, Christine, of Warren, Mich., and Howard Leslie BLACK and wife, Nancy, Lodi of Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Jarrod GORDON of Farmington, Mo., Harold Lee BLACK II of Warren, Mich., Sharayah GORDON of Carterville, Rebekah BLACK of Warren, Mich., Darcie ADAMS of Sussex, Wis., and Howard Stanley BLACK and Rachel BLACK, both of Warren, Mich.; and a brother, Robert BLACK and wife, Ruth, of Perryville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benton Church of the Nazarene Building Fund.
